It is no secret that we live in a throw away culture, why repair when you can simply buy new? These are the words that kept ringing in my head when I visited a village called Kasangonbe Lukyamu in the Nakaseke district in Uganda. While in this village with a friend of mine, I was taken to a local school where I was told the young students walk for miles to get there on empty stomachs. We’ve all been in situations where we have zero focus on things that need doing due to not having had breakfast and so I wondered what chance to these kids have if they have that feeling every morning.
And so on my return back to London I shared my story with friends who like me were very touched and sadden by what these children have to go through on a daily basis. We decided to do something about it and raised some money to try and put some smiles on the faces of these disadvantaged kids.
We have also been in touch with a few primary schools in Essex who have kindly donated books, children’s toys and many more other items which have gone a long way into making the kids’ education and schooling at St. Balikuddembe primary school a much better experience.
